Kokopelli is quite an interesting character in the Southwest US, he is a fertility god and I recently read an interesting history of how the natives changed the depiction of him to remove the phallus as it was offensive to the catholic Spaniards after they came to live in Mexico. I thought that was when he became more hunched in his appearance but I'm not sure? I would love to read more on him if anyone can recommend any resources, seems like an interesting myth with some fascinating history surrounding it.
