Tree mythology

So when I was younger and still living in a province in the Philippines, there were stories about creatures living in trees, and I don't just mean squirrels and birds, but supernatural beings having their own little worlds inside trees, specifically banyan trees (locally known to us as balete trees). Like there is one about an entire fairy community that can reside in a very old tree and if you cut it down you will be cursed. Also there are stories about a creature called the bangungot who lived in trees near bedrooms and could attack sleepers by sitting on them until they suffocate to death.

What are some stories about trees that you have heard?

There are certain trees in some places or certain locations which are believed to be the entrance or portal to another parallel world. Some of these trees are very old...

There are several myths surrounding the "Yew" tree which is said to grow in graveyards. One from Scotland reads:
“If a Clansman held in his left hand a piece of churchyard Yew, then as he confronted his enemy in battle to denounce him or threaten him, the enemy would hear nothing. All around would hear however, enabling the Clansman to swear afterwards that he gave clear warning of his intention and was thus not guilty of treachery.” (Wilks 1972).
Interesting, is it not?
