Tarpeian rock

The Tarpeian Rock has an interesting back story. It's a cliff that was reserved for executing traitors and others that the executioners wished to shame. It's named after the vestal virgin Tarpeia, who was killed and buried there after she betrayed the Romans by opening the gates to the Sabines.

The general Manlius Torqatus saved Rome from the Gauls. Then he was thrown off the Rock because the Senate thought he was trying to become a king with his newfound celebrity status.
