Norse mythology in classes

Maybe it was just me, but in my English classes, there was always a unit on Greek Mythology. Sometimes there would be a smaller unit on Native American Mythology and if you were really lucky, there would be maybe a story or two in the literature books based on Chinese Mythology. But norse Mythology is never mentioned. I'm not really sure why not, as the stories are extremely interesting, especially with the whole End of the world myth. It never gets taught though. Anyone have any ideas as to why it's not so popular as a mythology?

Classical mythology is almost always first because so much of Western civilization was grounded in or influenced by ancient Greece and Rome, there's just no way around it. You will always find an admiration for Classical myth in so much English literature, as well as Classical philosophy, especially Aristotle, whose work heavily influenced both religion and science for centuries.

Native American might be if you are in North America, they'd like to expose you to a bit of the cultures that were here first.

Norse mythology was never as exalted as Classical was, largely because the northern cultures like Celts and Germanic peoples were seen as stupid savages by the Roman Empire, during both its pagan and Christian periods. Throughout history it appealed less to scholars, mostly because much of the original translators were Christian scholars who dismissed its value as curiosity, and this has translated into a lack of interest in modern literature as well.

If you are interested in Norse mythology, then help VuduPins Productions make a film based off of the Norse myths of Baldur's death. The film is called "Baldur's Dreams" and is centered around Odin, Frigg, Baldur, and Loki. Before we can begin filming, we need to raise funds. Please help us and go to this site and donate money. Spread the word and help this film get made. Every penny counts. Thanks!
