Lemon slices in your tea?

I've heard this and I really don't know whether to believe it or not. I've heard that restaurants never wash the lemons they cut up to put in tea, hot or iced. Is this a true urban legend or is it just a load of hooey? I love lemon and it would be very hard for me to stop putting lemon in my tea.

Ew. But I think if this is the case this is very specific to certain restaurants that don't follow health standards. I'm pretty confident that restaurants of high standards would not let their employees do this... for the sake of their reputation.
