Bad things happen in threes?

I imagine most of us have heard the saying "Bad things happen in threes." Do you think that's true? How do you think the saying originated?

I'm not sure how that saying came about, but possibly it has something to do with the three fates in Greek/Roman mythology? There are three of them, soooo. What do you think?

That's quite possible. Even in Norse mythology there are the three Norns (fates) -- Urd, Verandi, and Skuld.

I have actually experienced this. For three years in a row three people a year died. Friends and family members. After that I started taking the threes thing seriously.
