A sick pet

Has anybody out there spent a good deal of money trying to cure a beloved pet?
My cat Damian, who I had for 9 years suddenly could not breath right.
I took him to the emergency room and they ran some tests.
It turns out he had fluid in his chest cavity and so his lungs could not expand.
They could not figure out why the chest filled up with fluid. So they operated, and found
that a part of his lung was twisted and had to be removed.
He is home now and recovering, and I'm happy that it wasn't anything
more serious like cancer or heart disease like they originally expected.
However, his treatment set me back 10,000 dollars.
Most people think I'm a little crazy for spending that kind of money on a cat.
But they don't bother me.

My cat, Basil, even though it was my mother who spent it, it was about 5, 000 dollars to treat him. And then a few months later anyway, he died. I still miss the little guy. He was 18 years then, when it all happened. Still though, it's difficult to get over losing a beloved pet.

Not 10k worth but still a good bit. A dog we have had for almost eight years got heart worms from misquotes, this tends to be the common way for dogs. We never even knew it was an issue and did not until he escaped (he is an escape artist), found by the SPCA, released back to us and went under for treatment. Most dogs never even make it through, its similar to chemo for people. My aunt had a similar issue (high vet bill) for their dog when he got into a tuff with one of their goats on the farm, he is lucky he lived through it too.
