I think the story of Branwen is pretty sad. She tastes a bit of happiness in her marriage, then is forced to work as a servant, then witness a war in which almost all the Irish are killed, as well as her son and brother, and then she dies of grief.
Why thank you, RLynn. ;)
My favorite goddess is also Athena. It's hard not to admire strength, wisdom, and courage. Marduk is a pretty cool god; I forgot all about him. I'd have to say Osiris is my favorite god though.
Werewolves and vampires are enemies in the Twilight and Underworld stories. Does this conflict stem from a myth or is it just a pop culture phenomenon?
I think taking him to a museum is a great idea! You can spark an interest in Egyptian mythology and combine that with his interest in Rick Riordan's books to entice him to read his Egyptian series.
Ah, I can relate. I came down with a cold last night myself. For some reason, however, I am averse to using cold medication; I just suffer through it, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help. I hope Rhonda's suggestions help you!
I read a debate online about Ouija boards. I didn't realize so many took a Parker Brothers game so seriously but I guess they do. I also found out the vintage Ouija boards are wooden, which I bet looks pretty nice.
Have you ever played a Ouija board? Do you think they are dangerous?
Both channels, especially TLC, have downgraded in quality considerably, although I must admit a certain weakness for reality TV.
If you want to catch something good on the History channel, try daytime or really late night airings.
That's really sweet, Oracle Lady, and I agree the gesture is more for surviving friends and family. I can relate to her as I'm a big Pepsi drinker too. ;) I am sorry for your loss though.
Last weekend, I met a little boy named Loki. He was a cool little kid (so far he's not much of a trickster :)) but I'm not sure that's a name I'd choose.
Would you name your child Loki?
Wow, that's an interesting thought! It'd be an excellent way to remain incognito (although why they would, I don't know) and obtain revenue in lieu of sacrifices/offerings.
Yes, Poltergeist is a very scary movie! Later on, the events become less classically poltergeist-like, (and frankly slightly cheesy) but the movies still scare me. The Ring is also very frightening, more so than Poltergeist.
Haha, I understand as I was not motivated either. Then I woke up this morning and my husband had already taken off all the decorations and packed everything away!
Yes, you don't want to read Twilight if you are looking for horror. There are some elements of horror in it but it is first and foremost a love story.
Reading the books gives a better understanding of the characters, I think, but won't necessarily make you like the story. ;)
I'm not a germaphobe, but the idea of kissing the Blarney Stone skeeves me out, simply because so many people have kissed it.
As for Celtic legends, I tend to read the Irish ones the most, followed by the Welsh.
I was reading online the other day, and people were claiming that the bindi on a Hindu woman's forehead indicates marital status. I don't know why they think that; I've always read that the bindi represents the inner eye, focused on God.
There are some mythological names that I like quite a bit. My favorite is Athena, but I couldn't get my husband behind that one for our girls, so I guess I will have to use it on a cat in the future.
Well that is today, so I guess I'll have to start working on it this weekend. My tree looks so pretty this year, though, that I'm having a hard time getting motivated. ;)
Yeah, the movies suck. I did enjoy the books, though. I wouldn't classify them as high literature, and I laugh and nod whenever I read the criticisms, but I still find them entertaining.
For those of you who celebrate Christmas, how long are you keeping the tree up? Is it gone already? I'm not religious, but I usually keep mine up until after January 6 (Epiphany), mostly because it seems like a good day to end Christmas festivities.
