    The story of Endymion?

Well, I do know an awful lot of sleeping maidens ended up pregnant by the god's ... er... hands. And the gods were often in animal form at the time. An example is Zeus in the guise of a swan coming to Leda. Their joining resulted in two eggs - one of which hatched out as Helen of Troy.

    Vampires

Lilith - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Lilith is rumored to be the first wife of Adam (ya know the biblical first man), but there is not much support for that theory. The story goes that they were both made from the earth, she refused to be subservient to him and she left Eden. Adam...

    Shrek: Fairy Tale or Fraud?

That is true that it is a spoof on the classic fairytale. I think they made that clear when Shrek wiped his behind on a page from the fairytale book in the beginning of Shrek One. They are just fun, anyway.

    Lilith

Some consider her to be the mother of all vampires, but she sounds much more like a succubus to me. Also, some women look up to her as the first feminist... not submitting to rule by man.

have you read C.S.Lewis's Space Trilogy

I haven't read these, nor have I gotten through the entire Chronicles of Narnia - which seem to be his more popular works. I'm not usually too fond of Science Fiction, however, and prefer fantasy.

    Santa

I suggested to my son last year that we leave some cookies and coffee for Santa - keep him awake on his long trip. And he looked at me with a withering glance and said "Don't you think Santa's fat enough?" The kid is far too literal for my tastes... but I do think he still believes.

    Shrek: Fairy Tale or Fraud?

Wouldn't the message be something like "no matter who you are, you can find love and acceptance?" Or maybe for Shrek 2 something about just being yourself and not trying to put on airs. I think they are fairy tales, and they do have messages if you care to look past the joking.

    Bedtime story

What does everyone think of reading to older kids? I enjoy reading to people, and my eldest son can read. We take turns reading to eachother throughout the day (I homeschool). I intend to read to my kids until they tell me to stop - and have them read to me. A friend said it was weird to...

    Sinbad the sailor

But why would it make people think badly of Iraqis. Sinbad was not a bad guy - he was a rather rougish hero.

    The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

I saw that movie too - pretty good. I have also heard that the legend is based on fact, but I think MOST good legends are based on fact actually. If you cut right down to it, there is not really anything supernatural going on in the story.

    Story Telling Game-its Easy!

Once upon a very dark time, an aged wizard named Phis Morgana, the son of Hiatus Morgana, was at work in his tower.

    Sinbad the sailor

:) I love those old movies. I have plans to show them to my kids soon. It seems odd to me that they would can the movie because of the war in the Middle East.

    Vampires

Well, I don't believe it, but, from the stories that I have read, Lilith seemed more like a demonish feminist to me.

    Sinbad the sailor

Disney (I think) made a Sinbad movie just a few years ago. It's all about some quest for the book of peace or something like that. I didn't know they had plans to release a series about him or anything.

    Bedtime story

I just think books are so important for kids - not only to get them interested in reading, but to spark their imagination. My eldest son is not very imaginative - he's very literal and analytical, but he can get into a good adventure story.

good for little girls or not

Jon Bonet's mother / parents were at fault for turning their daughter into a older-than-her-years princess thing, not Disney cartoons. You know, I grew up and I watched Snow White and Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty - the old Disney tales - and I read the books, or had them read to me. I...

Anyone else have a poster ...

Well, I never had god family trees on my wall, but I did have a huge poster of dragon breeds/types from Dungeons & Dragons on my wall. :) And a Tolkien poster. I always tended to more of the fantasy myths than the historical ones.

good for little girls or not

Well, that is what its all about, right? Selling stuff and making money. This reminds me of what I saw in the bank yesterday. A mom and her little (4 or 5) year old girl comes in. The girl is dressed in a fluffy tutu and has a sparkly crown and ribbons and bows and what-not. Everyone...
