We put our christmas tree up...

I usually put my tree up before Thanksgiving! I go to so much work that I like to have it up as long as possible to really enjoy it and not be stressed. I do like to take it down right around the new year, so it works out well for my family.

    What lights?

What kind of tree lights do you use if you have a tree for the holiday? Do you use clear lights or color lights? I love clear lights, but since I had kids I have started to like colored lights because my kids love them! What do you think?

    Famous lovers

I am currently reading a book on famous lovers throughout history. I am finding it quite fascinating! I have to admit that I love taking a peak into the bedrooms of famous historical figures. Some stories are more interesting or titillating than others, but all hold some fascination.

    Henry viii

You would think that would be the case, right?? I think the most disgusting part of the story is how the families of Anne Boelyn, Jane Seymour, and Catherine Howard actually plotted and schemed to get their daughters to be with him! In the case of Anne Boelyn, She and her older sister were...

    Henry viii

If I had to pick a wife that was the most powerful it would have been his first wife, Katherine of Aragon. She was loved by the people, was a daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain and had the sympathies and support of the Pope. I think the wife that I find the most...

    Great antique book

Nadai it was published in 1972 by Four Winds Press. The author is Duncan Emrich. On the inside cover it says "One of 1972's outstanding books of the year, New York Times Book Review." I'm sure it went out of print years ago. :)

    Henry viii

From everything I read, he was desperately in love with Jane, and she was such a gentle and kind woman that, had she lived, I think she could have been a true love match for him. I can't discount that he might have had a wondering eye, but he probably wouldn't have divorced her or had any...

    Buying furniture

Ooh, how exciting! I just love getting new furniture! Don't get me wrong, I don't want to give the impression that it happens often to me, but in the fifteen years I've been married, we've had to purchase a few things and it's been a lot of fun. I'm so happy for you! I hope you enjoy it!!

    The people of the dawnland

Yes, it has been an ongoing struggle for recognition. Part of the reason is that most of the Abenaki left the tribe and married with European settlers coming into Canada and New England. They assimilated into western society so effectively that there were few people left to recognize...

    Hoarders

I do watch Hoarders, and it makes me look around my slightly disorganized house with a smile. Compared to these people, my house looks as if it should be in Organized Home magazine. :)

    Pat: people.against.twilight

I had managed to be blissfully ignorant of all things Twilight until the movie was on FX last night. I watched five minutes of it. The only thing I took away from the five minutes I watched was how everyone has coloring like they are coming down with a bad stomach flu. I understand Edward...

    The people of the dawnland

The Abenaki live in New England, Quebec, and the Canadian Maritimes. Our ancestors are from the Missiquoi people who inhabited Northern Vermont along the Champlain Valley. People are more familiar with our "cousins" the Algonquin, and Abenaki are an Algonquin speaking tribe.

Horror movies based on real events/people

If I am not mistaken the movie The Haunting was based on a true story. I went to college in Northeast Pennsylvania, and a home in the town I went to school in was supposedly the inspiration for the movie.

    Great antique book

My mother-in-law recently moved from my husband's childhood home. She had a box of things she found in the attic that belonged to my husband when he was a kid. One of the things was a book called "The Hodgepodge Book: Containing All Manner of Curious, Interesting, and Out-of-the-Way...

Nbc show based on grimm's fairy tales

If this is the show I'm thinking of it looks awesome! I love stuff like this, and I look forward to watching. My biggest problem is that I see a show on prime time that looks great, and I never remember to watch it because I hardly ever watch prime time television.

    The people of the dawnland

The People of the Dawnland refer to my ancestors, the Abenaki Indian tribe. I am just beginning to learn about my ancestors, though my Uncle and Aunt have been members of the tribe for years. Right now I am studying about the culture and history of the different confederations of tribes that...

    The clown statue

I was reading about the Clown Statue urban legend and it kind of creeped me out. Anyone heard of it? It is actually a blend of several legends. It's about a babysitter who calls the parents of the children to complain about the creepy clown statue in their television room. The parents tell her...

    Historical crushes

I have to say I have a bit of a crush on two different men....Beethoven and John Donne. Beethoven wrote some very passionate and beautiful love letters (My Immortal Beloved), and John Donne wrote such a beautiful poem to his mistress (An Ode To My Mistress Upon Going to Bed). I can't help bu...

    Your historical idol

This is a tough question to answer because as someone else said, there are so many great historical figures! I really admire Elizabeth I simply because she was such a strong Queen in a time when women were not supposed to be strong and competent. England also prospered during her reign. :)

    Navajo code talkers

I have never done research on the Navajo code talkers, but I did see the movie and loved it! My family is of Native American descent (not Navajo) and I love seeing Native Americans portrayed positively in movies. Sadly, we are often portrayed in a negative light, and usually as the antagonists.
