    First myth you remember hearing

I think probably it was something to do with the ancient Egyptians and their myths. I remember doing a series of worksheets about ancient Egyptians in elementary school, as well as some fun activities like making a sugar cube pyramid. :D

    Your college major?

What did you major in? Or if you're still in college, what are you majoring in? I majored in English and minored in medieval studies. I kinda wish I had double-majored in anthropology as well, but...oh well.

    Snopes

I used Snopes a lot when I was younger and I kept getting those stupid hoax emails from people. I haven't checked it in a while, though! I wonder what new stuff has popped up since the last time...

    Witches and black magic

Not to rain on your parade, Pegasus, but you could also just try telling the person you're having a problem with that you don't want to deal with their negative energy/whatever and cut off communications. Sometimes I think using magic for things that could be accomplished without it is even...

    Cú chulainn hair?

I was re-reading Fled Bricrenn (Bricriu's Feast) the other day and I got to wondering. You know the part where Cú Chulainn lifts the fort/castle/whatever and turns it around? And his hair gets sucked back into his skull with the force of his power? Er...what's that about? What's the significance...

    Historical crushes

Oh, sure! I have. I had a big ol' crush on King Arthur when I was younger, and later Alexander the Great and Charlemagne. I guess I have a thing for royalty?

    Favourite film genre

My favorite genre of anything is mystery, though in movies mystery isn't always all that interesting (unfortunately). Mystery mixed with something else, though, is normally quite good-- like Clue, a mystery-with-comedy sort of movie.

    Your favorite character?

I think I like Athena best, but I also really like Artemis, Persephone, and the Muses. I like Athena because she's such a strong character and I like that she's the goddess of wisdom, civilization, warfare, strength, strategy, justice and skill as well as female arts and crafts. Makes me feel...

    Accuracy in film

Obvious historical inaccuracies, like a Roman wearing sneakers or something, do bother me. But generally I try to just enjoy the story and not get too worked up over changes made the story-- that sort of thing can drive you insane. I also don't think there's anything wrong with changing a story...

    Movies with a mythological theme

I do! Actually, mythologically-centered movies are what got me interested in mythology in the first place. I think the first one I saw was Clash of the Titans (the original one).

    Modern retellings

Does anyone have any good book recommendations for modern retellings or versions of Norse mythology? I'm familiar with American Gods by Neil Gaiman, Summerland by Michael Chabon, and Runemarks by Joanne Harris. What others are out there?

    What have you heard?

The only one like that that I can think of is the more usual "there was once a really bad criminal and now he's escaped the prison and is coming for your/your brother/your dog/etc." I used to live in a town with a pretty scary prison nearby, haha!

    Family interest

I'm the only ancient history buff in my family (that I know of), but my dad's interested in Americana and American history after the civil war, if that counts.

The mystery of the grail - literary sources.

I think I've found what you need to know! #3: Grand Saint Graal "The most detailed history of the Grail is in the "Grand St. Graal," a bulky French prose romance of the first half of the thirteenth century, where we are told that Christ Himself presented to a pious hermit the book concerning...

    Besides mythology

I like to practice photography, work on my knitting, and reorganize my bookshelves. Nothing else in my room is organized, but my bookshelves are all in order! ;)

    Bad things happen in threes?

I'm not sure how that saying came about, but possibly it has something to do with the three fates in Greek/Roman mythology? There are three of them, soooo. What do you think?

Why are you interested in mythology?

Since we're all on this forum we must all be interested in at least some aspect of mythology, right? So: why are you interested? :) For myself, I'm interested in mythology because of the historical and sociological aspects of it. I like learning about myths and legends and how they affected the...

    Creepy online games

Hmm, Coma is the creepiest game I've played online, I think (though I don't know how creepy it is compared to Ghostscape). It's got really good art and a nice soundtrack and I enjoyed playing it! Although it's a bit short.

    Favorite book?

Not necessarily a myth or legend-related book, just any book you enjoy and would call your favorite! :D Mine is probably The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. Medieval mystery set in a monastery-- it's great!

    Voodoo dolls

Hm, I don't think I've heard of that, but then I'm not overly familiar with voodoo. Is your friend an actual voodoo practitioner? If she is, then maybe you should listen. If she isn't then I'd get a second opinion from someone who is.
