    The nazis and the ocult.

The nazis seemed to blend a lot of things into there doctrine with the swastika being taken from the Hindu religion if I'm not mistaken and the howl thing about a master Aryan race sounds a little, well not christian...

    The nazis and the ocult.

I was wondering is there any hard evidence that The Third Reich practiced occult rituals or is the association due to the fact that they were trying to create the master race and this brought with it the sticker that they were dabbling in the occult.

Urban legends, mythology in it's own right?

I was just wondering if the mythology of ancient civilizations were once considered urban legends? A way to explain the unexplainable and if that's the case maybe in one thousands years people will be reading about Bigfoot, Bloody Mary and so on.

Odin - was he an extremist ?

How extreme he was or not is a reflection on the culture that spawned him. Vikings lived in one of the toughest environments of Europe, there belief was that dieing in battle will grant them access to "heaven" so to speak. I don't think a mild mannered God would have sufficed.

    Roman expansion into celtic territory

Makes you wonder, how fragile a beginning one of the worlds largest empires had. Yet they managed to build an empire that when was finally defeated put Europe in the dark ages for 1000 years.

    Icarus

That's the thing for everybody it's different, the most obvious idea would be to know your limits and when to stop, that doesn't mean however that it's the correct one. You also have to take into consideration that this story is more than 2500 years old and back then keeping plebs, plebs and...

    Spontaneous human combustion

The human body is basically very flammable. The spark can also come from electrical impulses that shoot up and down your nervous system, that's the theory, in practice we are ignoring the fact that we are 70% water and no fire burns without affecting nothing else, it just physics, heat is energy...

    The "collective unconscious" and mythology

If there was a collective unconscious I imagine we would also see signs of it today, yet to the best of my knowledge there have not been any. As far as myths are concerned it's more likely that cultures took and shared ideas about there gods, or experienced the same cataclysmic events.

    The role of animals

My knowledge about Native American mythology is kind of lacking, but from what I understand most tribes lived of the land, they were so to speak the first ecoconcius people and this is highly reflected in their beliefs.

    Presents for the gods

As far as the Greek gods are concerned, the best way to describe them is as jealous, selfish, imperfect brats with powers. The Greeks made their gods very, very human. As far as offerings are concerned, they were meant to appease the gods so that they gave good crops, didn't start plagues and...

Myths and what they have in common?

That's interesting Rhonda, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around that theory. If a major vulcaninc eruption or any other event that would have caused nuclear winter for 3-5 years would have taken place, I'm sure the scientific community would be all over it. Putting that aside, blocking...

    Loki and hermes

Because he was the father of Slepnir, Odins magical horse, as for him being in high regards with the gods well if you call being tied to a rock with the entrails of your children and getting fed venom, than remind me to never make you angry Rhonda :).

Myths and what they have in common?

Putting aside the fact that a lot of creation myths say we were made out of soil, which is quite accurate as we contain a high amount of carbon, a lot of myths also speak about a great flood and there are other similarities. Do you think some myths contain actual world shaping events...

    Stonhenge

Never been myself, but out off all the explanations the one that makes the most sense is that was built for some ritual. Huge monuments were usually a way of pleasing the gods. As far as the mystical energies go, well it's as mystical as any big slab of rock I guess.

    Televison Shows

I pretty much have one for every category, Supernatural, House, The Big Bang Theory, How the universe works and so on. I mostly tivo my shows however, the only time I actually watch something "live" I'm probably watching the Science channel.

    Most influential ancient culture?

It was in a broad meaning, which do you consider personally the most influential it doesn't have to be scientifically accurate. I'm well aware of other cultures contributions, like the Chinese gunpowder which changed the face of war, the Egyptians inventing paper, the Sumerians being the fist...

    Has anyone heard this story?

Well the only ones we know about, but who knows what desperate soles might have happened upon it when they sailed into the unknown in order to escape some sort of prosecution, Europe was a pretty nasty place in the middle ages and I found it hard to believe that only two expeditions visited the...

    Most influential ancient culture?

In your opinion what is the the most influential ancient culture in history? I'd probably have to say the Greeks for establishing the roots of democracy and most of the sciences.

    Why does mythology fascinate you?

Well if we are on the subject Christmas is actually the celebration of the pagan ritual of winter solstice, it was incorporated in Christianity to better help the newly converted pagans with accepting the new religion and according to the Jewish calendar Jesus was born in spring not in the winter.

What is your favorite tale from Greek Mythology?

I'm partial to the battle of Troy myself and to the birth of the gods, but the howl Greek mythology interests me so it's hard to say that I like one given story more than the rest.
