Has anyone here discovered the mythological world created by the English mystic, artist, and poet, William Blake? Blake was a genius who clearly saw through the shallowness and injustice of society and religion in his day, but in some of his poetry (the so-called 'prophetic' works) he got into matters which transcend our familiar world to a degree that most people find incomprehensible.

Tolkien's Silmarillion is also a created mythology, but it is more literary and experimental (and understandable) than Blake's, which was intended to be taken seriously.

By the way, the lyrics of the familiar Anglican hymn Jerusalem (And did those feet in ancient time) were written by Blake, inspired by the legend that Jesus and Joseph of Arimathea once visited England, specifically Glastonbury. The hymn is heard in one of the church scenes in the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral.
