The name loki

Last weekend, I met a little boy named Loki. He was a cool little kid (so far he's not much of a trickster :)) but I'm not sure that's a name I'd choose.

Would you name your child Loki?

I doubt it, while we did think a great deal about what we wanted to name our kids the idea of Loki (or any other sort) never came up. I guess some people just want a truly rare name for their kids.

Someone today asked me about the name Loki!
I told him that he shares it with a giant named Utgard-Loki.
This probably demonstrates that Loki has more in common with the race of giants than he did with the gods.

I do like Loki, he can be amusing at times, though mostly he comes off as scheming and a little malignant. (And his children include Fenrir and Jormungandr, as a statement to what he's like.) Certainly not someone I'd name my child after.

I would probably consider the name Loki because it just sounds amazing to me, but I also have a dog named Loki so the likely hood of naming my child that have gone down.

Yeah, that would probably be kind of confusing. What dog breed is Loki?

When I first read American Gods by Neil Gaiman, the instant I read Low-Key Lyesmith (Loki Lie-smith)'s name I fell in love with it.
So yeah, chances are good I'll name something after Loki. Not necessarily a kid though.

In some cultures, they used to wait until a child had been around for a few years before they names them so that they had a chance to observe the child and give them a name that fit them...these are magickal workings in that when you name a thing, it will begin to take on the attributes that the name carries...so the kid named Loki, will in time begin to take on the attributes of Loki...

I met a kid named Odin once. So I would not be surprised if we run into someone with a gods named in the future. Loki is a nickname of someone I know who lives up to it with his tricks.

No, I would definitely not name a child Loki. Loki is to be respected because he is blood-brother with Odin, and his "tricksterism," while not always pleasant, is a necessary part of the functioning of the cosmos. But Loki is a force of chaos, and I would not want to burden a child this way. I used to have a German Shepard named Fenriz though.
